Stay Free Alberta files appeal

Organizers of the Stay Free Alberta petition will be back at the courthouse Tuesday. “We’re going to be filing a stay application with Court of Appeal to have Justice Leonard’s decision set aside pending appeal,“ said Jeffrey Rath. Premier Dani Panama said her government is reviewing all legal options that could include the use of the notwithstanding clause. (Native treaty rights are iron-clad protected from the notwithstanding clause) She has indicated her taxpayers (including the 70% opposed) would appeal.

Arguably insane Mitch Sylvestre said the Stay Free Alberta petition garnered 300k signatures. It’s fate is in limbo.

The latest court filing, produced hours after the decision, lists more than a dozen arguments under the grounds of appeal. The quickly produced ‘shotgun’ approach will likely miss everything.

With the ‘fast track’ appeal filed, Rath said the plan is to apply on Tuesday for a stay on Leonard’s decision. Their hope is that it will allow Elections Alberta to count and certify the separarist petition.
