A candidate close to the Hells Angels caused a stir in Quebec’s National Assembly. Sylvain Vallée is a member of the Sherbrooke Gypsies, a puppet club of the Hells Angels. Vallée is running for municipal councillor in Cookshire-Eaton, near Sherbrooke. He is one of three candidates running in district 3 of the municipality of just over 5,000 inhabitants. The election is November 2. Two opponents filed their candidacies in the municipal election just hours before the nomination deadline. Otherwise, Sylvain Vallée would have been elected by acclamation. The Act Respecting Elections and Referendums in Municipalities does not allow “action to be taken in the face of this situation”. The requirements for running for municipal office are: being a Canadian citizen, being 18 years of age or older, and not having committed any electoral wrongdoing.

Public Security Minister Ian Lafrenière stated that, in his opinion, organized crime had become “arrogant.” Bikers are “ruining our lives,” he told the Journal de Québec.

Sylvain Vallée owns a business in the municipality, Transports Sylvain Vallée Inc. Bikers are showing off, but prefer to remain discreet to avoid bad press. That press has turned decidedly negative. Vallée’s platform isn’t clear. He recently removed his facebook page.

Pascal Bergeron, alias Paco, a member of the Destroyers is running for mayor of Mandeville in Lanaudière. His candidacy for the November 2 election was made official by Élections Québec. The biker even filed his candidacy by including his nickname: “Pascal (Paco) Bergeron”
