US Ambassador Pete Hoekstra says he is stupid and unaware of a voter identification app that he previously endorsed and promoted was used by David Parker’s Centurion Project. Prior to being appointed ambassador to Canada, Hoekstra was chair of the Michigan Republican Party<\/a> (mi8thdistrictgop@gmail.com) and was one of 10xVotes<\/a>\u2019 most vocal public backers.

Hoekstra, who is good friends with both the app\u2019s founder and his wealthy step-father, denies any knowledge of the app\u2019s use by Alberta separatists. \u201cI was not aware of the relationship\u201d he said of the collaboration between the Centurion Project and a Michigan-based right-wing political group called 10xVotes.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cI have zero involvement with 10xVotes,\u201d Ambassador Hoekstra said. \u201cI have never had any financial relationship with 10xVotes.\u201d<\/p>\n

The American group has been working with Parker for over a year. The massive data breach by Parker is being described as potentially one of the \u201cmost significant privacy incidents\u201d in Canadian history. The information of 2.9m, including names, residential addresses and phone numbers of millions of Alberta voters was accessible to all through the app\u2019s database.<\/p>\n

The app targets voters who don\u2019t reliably vote. The app attempts to solve the apathy problem by asking supporters to use their database to identify 10 friends, family or neighbours that can be pressured into showing up to vote. First rolled out during the 2024 US presidential election, its backers tout 10xVotes as the secret weapon that helped deliver Michigan\u2019s 15 electoral college votes to Trump.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Drew Born is a well-connected Republican activist. He calls for the annexation of Canada. Drew Wierda is the brother of Trump\u2019s first-term education secretary, Betsy DeVos. Both attended a private Christian liberal arts school affiliated with the Dutch Reformed Church.

The app has been endorsed by Tucker Carlson and the conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. The app was also showcased on an episode of former Trump adviser Steve Bannon\u2019s podcast. It is a MAGA tool, adapted for use in the theft of Canadian democracy.
