A B.C. Supreme Court judge ruled in March 2025 that Dennis Modry, co-founder and former CEO of the Alberta Prosperity Project, stole money from the joint bank account of his aunt and uncle who suffered from Alzheimer\u2019s and dementia respectively. The ruling was the result of a scandal that had taken years to unfold and ended with a scathing judgement against Modry.<\/p>\n

He stole large sums out of their accounts \u2014 including their savings and mutual funds. The court ordered him to pay the stolen money back with interest. The criminal Modry paid nothing.

\n\u201cI’d like to work out a settlement, just out of frustration, just for this to go away. But there’s no way I’m going to agree to a settlement of the magnitude that they’re referring to,\u201d thief Modry said. According to court documents from October 2025, no appeal has been filed and the window to appeal has expired. <\/p>\n

In 2014 Modry was given power of attorney for his uncle Fred Bodnar and Bodnar\u2019s wife, Laurette, who have both since died. Fred Bodnar died on October 2, 2018 and Laurette died on December 25, 2019. Laurette Bodnar suffered from Alzheimer’s and was placed in long-term care, where she eventually didn’t recognize her husband. The judge determined that Modry stole $1,285,183.07 of Fred and Laurette\u2019s money. Their estate wants it back.

\nModry co-founded the Alberta Prosperity Project in 2022. He travelled to Washington at least 3 times in 2025, along with the group\u2019s CEO Mitch Sylvestre and chair Jeff Rath to discuss Alberta separation with Trump officials. Modry is the poster boy why these massive open crooks can’t be trusted as far as they can be thrown.
