On the same day that Mike Ellis, Alberta\u2019s Minister for Public Safety and Emergency Services, spewed hugely improbable bullshit about foreign actors, the BBC has published<\/a> a damning report confirming it. <\/p>\n

“The joint report was released on Wednesday by the Global Centre for Democratic Resilience, the Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Data and Conflict, and DisinfoWatch.” It argued that foreign actors are exploiting the separatist movement. Bad actors are using social media to amplify separatist narratives, normalize annexation, encourage national rupture, and undermine confidence in democratic processes.

\n“The issue is no longer only a matter of provincial politics,” researchers wrote. “It becomes a direct threat to Canada’s democratic integrity, national security, and cognitive sovereignty.”<\/p>\n

\u201cI can tell you, from the deputy commissioner of the RCMP, there is no credible information that has been received that suggests that the Alberta separatist movement has been subject to foreign interference,\u201d Ellis spewed.<\/p>\n

The RCMP cited as the alleged source is Deputy Commissioner Trevor Daroux. (trevor.daroux@rcmp-grc.gc.ca) He is the RCMP\u2019s Commanding Officer in Alberta. If true, and we doubt it highly, Daroux needs to be sanctioned for discussing the details of an active investigation.

\nDani Panama accused NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi of acting unethically and putting MLAs at risk because he didn’t inform the legislature when he learned of the potential data breach on April 17. Nenshi said the NDP reported the potential breach to the RCMP that day, and noted at least one UCP staff member (Arundeep Singh ‘Trust Me’ Sandhu) participated in a Centurion training session on April 16 and said nothing.
